Paper Cutting, a new interest

Hye hooo~

So, I started cutting my paper, well, hacking away actually. It looks so simple when I did my research ( youtube videos, blogs…) but OHMYGOD, it is NOT simple. Not simple at all! I nearly cut myself a few times there!

Anyway, after numerous tries and errors, (not to mention, a couple of paper hacking later) I’ve gotten to this stage! :D

This was not easy to do, took me a while to get the whole head right. Well, it looks fine up to here right?

Went through a great deal to come up with a design for the dominant piece.

I had originally wanted to make a little girl standing and looking towards the sky and tiny loves were floating above her. But try and try as I may, I couldn’t get it right, at the end,
I remember doing those silly silhouettes in our little notebooks back in my schooling days *ahem* and had proceed to
do my own research and found a silhouette of a girl sitting down and looking into the sky, I then decided to use it and redrew it by myself, so credits to the owner! :D

And this, dear people, I did this last night at 2am, I was frustrated because I made the same mistake over and over again. Not to mention, wasting paper D: So, I temporarily gave up on my work, and started doing a funny one, and I did an angry robot, because I felt like a robot at the time, an angry
one at that! D: so tee hee. THERE YOU GO J

what do you think? :D

Anyway, I’m not done yet, I still need to mount it on the mounting board and I'm still contemplating whether I should add more stuff or whatnot.

[*ahem* Personally, I think it looks fine as it is. *ahem*]

let’s just see what’s the final outcome on the next post J

Tingling with excitement yet?

I am J

Introduction to Paper Cutting

After our grids presentation (18th Sept 2012), Ms Lisa taught us the correct way of using the cutter/blade.

Then, a few slides on The Art of Paper Cutting were displayed, and we were introduced to the delicate art. I never knew paper cutting was such a historical form of art that has evolved uniquely all over the world to adopt to different cultural styles. Awesome.

Ms Lisa had then proceeded to show us a few photos of some of the most creative paper cutting artwork I have ever seen. Of course, we got a new assignment and YES, its PAPER CUTTING!

I’ve already thought of a design I’d do for the assignment!
So, as of now, I am both excited and worried at the same time!

That’s it for now, as I am rather in a hurry, I’ll post about my progress soon!

Grids, In All It's Glory. *photos updated

Hello gorgeous people!

As I said, before, we had that assignment about the grid, and I am proud to say I am more confident with my layouts now that I have learnt and practised with the use of the grids. Though I can't post the photos as of now,but I'll post them later.

As I said, I have  come to realise the importance of grids to produce balanced, "pleasing to the eyes" articles. So, let me just recap, the grids that we were instructed to make the layouts are

The Golden Ratio Grid,
The grid is commonly used as website layouts.
[though my Golden Ratio is rather off]

The Baseline Grid,
   Commonly used for magazines articles.

The Column Grid ,
   Commonly used for newspaper articles.

So, I've done my layouts and have mounted it on the boards. I must say I'm rather satisfied with my work. I hope its right though!

* Done with my presentation, my Golden Ratio is a little off :(

Thats it for now.

Bye bye :)

Getting to know them Grids.

On September 11th 's lecture, Ms Lisa had gone further into detail about the Grid System. We were briefed on the functions, types, and the parts of the Grids.

The type of Grids that we were taught were,
Baseline - most commonly used
Golden Ratio- Used for website layouts.
Rule of Thirds, Columns - usually used for newspapers and magazines.

Then , Ms Lisa proceed to show us the parts of the grid such as the margin, gutter, module and more.

For the in class activity, we had pull out articles from magazines or newspapers. And we were instructed to mark out the grid we see on the articles.

Ms lisa had also taught us a little shortcut to get a decent grid on our papers. By folding the page horizontally twice, and then vertically twice as well. Once the page is opened, you'll have a decent Rule of Thirds Grid (4x4) :D
Later on, we had to design our own page with the "hierarchy" of articles, which includes Header, Sub-header and body copy.

And this is the two articles, i've come up with :

and that was it for the day! Of course, we now have a new assignment! I'll blog about that next time!

BYEEE :)

CAPFe Industry reveals...

On Sept 10th 2012, we finally had the presentation of all the groups' final product!

I must say i feel absolutely proud and satisfied with our outcome and i feel overjoyed to actually show it  to the other mates as well. It was thrilling to see the final product from the other groups as well.

Curious as to what the other groups did? There are photos of what all the groups did on the Principle of Design (Foundation) blog that Ms Lisa has created! Go check it out!

Anyway here's the photo Ms Lisa took of us with our Umbrella stand! (its also on the link).

Latest News: CAPFe Industry releases still photos of current project...

GOOD MORNING fellow Earthlings, and, if you are reading this, ALIENS :)

Remember the activity of taking the photos, where mine is Landscape? I've completed my video :D

Its rather long though xD haha but well. A for efforts i guess? HAHA XD

Anyhoo, i think its probably time to tell you our furniture project huh? hahaha Well, let me just reminisce to the weekends..

TADAAAAAA.
Umbrella Holder
-CAPFe Industry-

On MERDEKA DAY (WEEHOOOO <3)

CAPFe had met at Ikano Power Center, to shop shop shop! Shop for materials at Ace Hardware store that is. To be honest, with all the junk we got there, the final price was pretty decent. Well, at least, thats what i think.

We later then went to Aina's place to start building :D

i must say i was really REALLY demotivated to start working because of our former idea had to be put aside as it was rather risky to go on with the plan (with the plan of breaking the glass screen, wiring and whatnot).

But, you know, after laying everything out and throwing ideas on how to make the project work, i gradually got excited. :)

How it all started,
  • 3 table legs which Aina had lying around at her place
  • CD plactic racks.

After numerous trials and errors we finally had a stable idea and design on how our project is going to come out as!

So anyway, i was playing around with the CD racks and putting the racks against the empty space (walls) of the soon-to-be umbrella holder, and everyone just simultaneously clicked and got an idea to unscrew them and place the racks on top of one another to make a sorta cylinder shape container.

Men of the group got the job of unscrewing the racks. GO HOI JUN! GO K! :D

While the men worked on unscrewing, the girls , (me, Zue, Aina and Rosey [ Thankyou for helping us Rosey, she's in a different group xD] got ourselves busy as well.

Me and Zue embracing our maternal instincts.
cleaning the racks before spray painting.

Me, spray painting the racks red.

Zue's turn to spray paint!
The hooks are gold :)

spray painting the decorations, the likes of screws, nutbolts,
small garden hose metal thingy at the front.

Dry my pretty babies. DRY.
We all had a go at spray painting. tralala

Me, having my turn at spray painting the bar GOLD.

After all the spray painting and letting it dry overnight.

The next day, me and Li Wei (who couldnt come to the first day) went to Aina's place to continue on our piece. Though it was just the 3 of us, (me, Li Wei, Aina) we worked hard and well together to go forth with the project doing.

And the nearly-the-final-product is better than what i expected.

Me and Li Wei in that proud mama mode :D

Of course we are still going for that steampunk look, though the whole Ironman look is awesome as it is ;) Oh Tony :D

I personally cant wait to let the others and Ms Lisa to see what we've done :D

Byebye :D

IRONMAN.. more or less

TRALALALALALA.

Good morning :D

Sooo.. Remember the TV bookshelf i told you before? Emm. Well, sadly to say, there is no TV bookshelf. We came across a complication with breaking the television and taking out all the wires, and having the wiring knowledge less than 40%, it became rather dangerous to go on with the plan.
So. we are in the midst of finishing up everything with our back up plan. I cant really say much about the project yet, or even post the photo of it.

WE JUST LOVE SURPRISES.

hmm. but maybe i can give a preview of it getting done? haha

At Aina's place. Li Wei is working on the glue and stuff.
Well, this is halfway done.Try and guess what it is!

 LET YOUR IMAGINATION GO WILD.
